This wing has some interesting markings on the back. The center markings look like a single stamp mark. The other one looks like a "U " with an arrow inside and was done with a pen or brush. Does anyone have any ideas on these markings? Crown is padded. - "You asked about the markings on the back of a pair of SA Air Force
wings. I can tell you that the arrow inside the "U" was the symbol used
by the Union Defence Force until about 1960. The arrow showed which way
up was (perhaps so it was not read as "n").
My father was a SAAF pilot during the war (Spitire, DC-3) and flew in
the Berlin Airlift. I joined the SAAF in 1964 and left in 1968 to go to
